A Leaky Gut May Cause or Contribute to Rheumatoid Arthritis!
All disease begins in the gut. - Hippocrates
A leaky gut? Yikes! Chances are you may have heard about Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS) by now. It's finally starting to get it's day in the main-stream media spotlight, with a recent segment on the Dr. Oz Show
and an article on the U.S. News and World Report
website. It's about time! As Dr. Oz points out in his segment though, most western doctors still aren't familiar with the condition. For us, that's a shame because more and more data shows that rheumatoid arthritis is caused by it! The sad thing is, it is curable - without the use of drugs. Shouldn't that be the first line of attack when diagnosing a patient with RA?
What is a Leaky Gut?
This syndrome is caused when we eat foods we are sensitive or allergic to. This creates inflammation in the gut/intestines, which damages it and causes the lining to become more permeable (leaky), thus allowing toxins, bacteria and undigested food particles to leak out into the body. When the body sees things floating around in it that aren't supposed to be there, it sounds off the alarms and the immune system is sent in attack and clean up the mess. The immune system creates antibodies to these "food particle invaders" so every time the food is eaten, an immune response it triggered.
Please, please take a moment to watch the Dr. Oz segment on the subject (link above)! It's a story about how a mother cured her 3-yr old son (who was prescribed methotrexate) of juvenile arthritis by following a LGS protocol. It's also very informative.
How Does it Cause Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Sometimes those pesky animal proteins and other food antigens that seep through a leaky intestine can look just like our own normal tissue antigens and when the immune system is called in to respond, it attacks the "foreign invaders" as well as the normal healthy tissue it resembles. The body literally starts to attack itself. This is called an autoimmune response, and of course rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease.
How Do You Heal a Leaky Gut?
In the video below, Dr. Michael Klaper explains how to cure it. FYI, this is a clip from the 3-day Healthy Lifestyle Expo in 2013. If you want to buy the whole DVD, you can get it here on Amazon: Get Healthy Now 2013 (White)
To recap, Dr. Klaper suggests the following protocol to heal LGS:
- Stop hurting your gut lining! (cut out alcohol, sugar, and unnecessary antibiotics and NSAIDs)
- Stop eating foods you are sensitive to (Not sure what they are for you? Do a Food Elimination Diet)
- Repair the gut with 1000 mg Quercetin and 1000 mg Glutamine twice a day for 6 weeks
- Protect the new gut lining with probiotics
